Editors & Reviewers
Independent judgement is the core scholarly function.
BMU supports the systems around editorial work; editors and reviewers provide the discipline-specific judgement that publishing infrastructure cannot replace.
Editorial authority belongs with qualified, conflict-aware decision-makers.
Editors assess scope, methodological and scholarly quality, ethical acceptability, review evidence and the overall reliability of a manuscript. Reviewer recommendations inform the decision; they do not replace editorial responsibility.

Review
Select independent expertise, interpret reports and request further assessment when needed.

Decide
Make reasoned decisions based on scholarly and ethical grounds rather than commercial preference.
Critical, constructive and confidential peer review.
Reviewers should assess the research question, methods, analysis, ethics, reporting, interpretation, limitations and contribution within their expertise. Reviews should distinguish essential concerns from optional preferences and avoid coercive citation or personal criticism.
Independence includes knowing when not to participate.
Editors and reviewers should disclose relationships that could affect, or reasonably appear to affect, impartial judgement. Where a material conflict exists, reassignment or recusal protects both the manuscript and the decision-maker.
Confidential manuscripts are not training material.
Unpublished manuscripts, review reports, reviewer identities and confidential editorial information should not be uploaded to public generative-AI systems. Human editors and reviewers remain accountable for assessments and decisions.

Interested in editorial or peer-review participation?
Editorial and reviewer appointments should be based on relevant expertise, integrity, independence and the ability to contribute actively. BMU does not treat a title on a masthead as a substitute for genuine participation.
